Cashiers Architects in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

Cashiers Architects design homes in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.

This unique plateau has Cashiers in the middle, with Sapphire and Lake Toxaway to the east, Glenville to the north and Highlands to the west.  Only a few architects live here year-round, among them, HOME ARCHITECTS ® senior architect, Rand Soellner ArCH, AIA, NCARB, one of the World’s Leading Mountain Home Architects.  Alan Brown, AIA is also here.  He and Rand Soellner are friends and respect each other’s work.  They both are at work daily designing special homes for discerning clients.  Cashiers architects become seasoned living here year-round, building the experience it takes to deal with this unique geology and weather.  Stephen Clack, AIA is another architect who designs outstanding projects, associating with Rand Soellner over the last couple of decades on major projects.

Cashiers, Highlands, Lake Toxaway, Glenville and Sapphire are all clustered along a stretch of US Highway 64 at the southern tip of the Blue Ridge Mountains, collectively called “The Plateau.”  The average height above seal level is between 3,000 to 4,600′.  That’s about 2/3 to 3/4 of a mile up in the air and therefore, seasonal temperatures are usually 10 to 15 degrees F below temperatures in Atlanta and other areas “down the mountain.”

The unique environment is an Alpine Rain Forest, ecologically speaking and there is a special geology to be respected.  Experienced Mountain Architects know about the granite bedrock, that comprises the oldest mountains in the World and take precautions to insure that homes are built to stay.  It takes quite a few years to understand all that the mountains have to offer and it takes longer to understand how to design homes and buildings that are compatible with this special environment.  That’s why Cashiers architects are so valuable to their clients; providing skilled expertise for a special area.

Some Cashiers architects are also green home architects
Some Cashiers architects design green projects.

Some local designers have extended abilities with such activities as green home design.  This skill set allows them to craft your house to use less energy, use recycled materials and have a lower carbon footprint on this environment.  For instance, Rand Soellner’s firm  has an entire section of their website devoted to this subject.  In this substantial collection of pages, his firm reviews many of the issues his firm analyzes while designing your home.  Energy conservation is paramount, to lower your monthly utility bills, as is use of recycled materials that result in a healthier planet, and also Healthy House Design, a program founded by his firm that focuses on designing your residence to be a healthier place in which to live.
